We are a country that takes care of our communities. And in these unprecedented times, critical, short-term measures must be taken to ensure we're able to do that.
Feeding America – the largest anti-hunger relief organization in the country – and our network of 200 food banks and 60,000 partner food pantries and meal sites are facing an unprecedented moment in time, as millions of people are filing for unemployment and having trouble putting food on the table. In Arkansas alone, 672,000 will face hunger this year, many for the first time because of COVID-19.
We know food banks are helping with the gap, but the first line of defense against hunger in this country is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). For every meal that the Feeding America network of food banks provides, SNAP provides nine.
SNAP is also one of the most cost-effective ways to help the economy. During the last recession, every dollar invested in SNAP helped generate about $1.70 in economic activity.
Until the economy recovers, we can't leave struggling families behind. Tell Senators Boozman and Cotton that you support an emergency increase in SNAP food assistance to help keep food on the tables for families across our country.
If you take action and have not already registered, you will receive periodic updates and communications from Feeding America.
